Ramadan is a month focused on fasting, prayer and reflection, as well as a time where friends and family gather. This may be a difficult time for those who have lost someone, or whose situation feels more complicated. In a recent workshop and Q&A, we spoke to Shuma from Spoken Grief about her experiences of grief and loss during the month of Ramadan – in the year that her mum died, as well as the years that have followed. She reflects on many things, from the difficulties of fasting when they were going in and out of hospital, to feeling like she can’t enjoy the month in the same way and missing her mum’s cooking.
